May 31st, 2013 was the most devastating and deadly fire in Houston Fire Department history. A 5-alarm motel fire claimed the lives of four Houston firefighters and injured 14 others. Three of the injured firefighters sustained serious long-term injuries. Anthony Livesay and Robert Yarbrough had months of recovery at home and multiple surgeries. The third, Captain William Dowling, suffered crushing injuries and burns that required both legs to be amputated. Bill has been through countless surgeries and dialysis to aid his body in healing. Please keep Iron Bill and the entire Dowling Family in your prayers. A group of firefighters decided to establish a non-profit organization called “Firefighters Helping Firefighters” whose goal is to support active HFD firefighters and their families experiencing tragic events.
HIREFIRE - The Online Resource of Firefighter’s 2nd Professions
HIREFIRE is the PREMIER listing of Houston Firefighters with their own businesses, trades, services or products.
One of the BEST ways the Greater Houston community can support Houston Firefighters is by hiring them to do work or buy their products. This site enables our Houston Firefighters to share their business info and allows visitors to contact the business directly through this page.

HANGIN’ WITH HEROES – Community Outreach
Our off-duty Houston Firefighters volunteer to visit seriously ill and injured children in the local hospitals and show them firefighting gear and tools and how they are used. This interactive event helps bring smiles to the kids faces and helps them forget the reasons they are in the hospital. Each child becomes an “honorary” firefighter receiving hats, stickers and other goodies. We believe that every child deserves time with a hero.
We have several more projects up our sleeves so keep an eye on this website and follow us on Facebook as we break news.
Get your station together and collect donations to represent your station in this challenge. Send us your station logo and we will display it proudly at our events and online as a Fire Station that supports Firefighters Helping Firefighters.
